Hamlet Ophelia Free Essays
Throughout the play of Hamlet, one constantly questions if Hamlet is actually in love with Aphelia. His intentions are difficult to determine: it often appears as though he is not in love with her at all, but is in fact repulsed by her. Hamlet even insists that Aphelia leave him, and everyone else in her life, in his immortal line, ââ¬Å"Get thee to a nunneryââ¬â¢ (Ill. We will write a custom essay sample on Hamlet Ophelia or any similar topic only for you Order Now L. Pl 25), thus sending her away to lead a life of solitude. However, despite these statements from Hamlet, his other actions give way to the idea that Hamlet not only loves Aphelia, but also cares for her so deeply that he sees her as a liability. He treats her terribly and insists that she leave him in order to protect her from being hurt or killed by his enemies. It is here that we see that, indeed, Hamlet really does love Aphelia. The closest that Hamlet ever comes to stating his love is in Act Ill. Hamlet says to Aphelia, ââ¬Å"l did love youâ⬠(Ill. L. Pl 25). However, he then goes on to tell her he does not love her. During this conversation, Hamlet believes someone may be eavesdropping on them. This is proven by Hamletââ¬â¢s question, ââ¬Å"Whereââ¬â¢s your father? (Ill. L. IPPP). Aphelia states that he is at home. Hamlet replies with, ââ¬Å"Let the doors be shut upon him that he may play the fool nowhere but in ââ¬Ës own houseâ⬠(Ill. L. IPPP-44). This quote suggests that Polonium, Aphelionââ¬â¢s father, is eavesdropping on Hamlet and foreshadows that he may be planning something as a result. Hamlet would never want to give away his true intentions for Aphelia to one of his enemies, such as Polonium, and therefore lies to Aphelia about his intentions for her. His love for her is so deep that he is willing to make her believe that he does not love her in order to rote her. Another example of Hamlet admitting his love for Aphelia is in the letter that he sends her. Hamlet writes, ââ¬Å"Never doubt I love. â⬠(11. 11. IPPP). He tells her that among and between everything else around her, his love for her is real. This is the one time before Aphelionââ¬â¢s death that Hamlet reveals his true feelings. He feels he can do this in writing, as Hamlet believes only Aphelia will read the letter, as opposed to one of his enemies, such as Polonium. Hamlet knew he had to hide his love for Aphelia and act in a different manner to protect her. His plan backfires however when Aphelia chives the letter, as she gives it to her father. Not even in writing can Hamlet admit his true feelings for Aphelia without the information of his vulnerability slipping into the wrong hands. Throughout the play, Hamletââ¬â¢s love for Aphelia is questioned. Hamlet acts as if he does not love Aphelia in order to trick everyone else into thinking that he does not care about her. Hamlet does not want Aphelia to become involved with him because if Claudia decides to get revenge on Hamlet, she would die. Hamlet shows his love for Aphelia when he confesses to her that he ââ¬Å"lovedâ⬠her, when he sends her the deter, and when he finds out that she has died. But many could argue that Hamlet never loved Aphelia ââ¬â that he fell out of love with her or he never loved her in the first place but was simply driven insane by his fatherââ¬â¢s death and attempted to use her feelings for him to his advantage. Needless to say, there is concrete information pointing to Hamletââ¬â¢s love being true. Hamlet simply was not able to state it bluntly in order to protect Aphelia. Rexes Manchester Mr.. Lowe Is Hamlet a misogynist? If so, what might be the pathology of this vile disorder? Throughout the play Hamlet accuses women of being adulterous, uncaring and soonest creatures. Hamletââ¬â¢s misogynistic feelings towards women come from his mother, Gertrude, and, unfortunately, Aphelia becomes part of his thoughts as well. Hamletââ¬â¢s mother is the cause for his suspicion towards women. Gertrude hasty, and incestuous, remarriage to Claudia, within a week of the kings death causes anguish, suffering and distress for Hamlet. This leads him to question the true heartiness of all women; ââ¬Å"O most wicked speed, to post with such dexterity to incestuous sheets! It is not nor it cannot come to good, but break, my heart, for I must hold my tongue. (1. 11. Up 56-157) As the story goes on Gertrude becomes a cruel, adulterous and insupportable woman in Hamletââ¬â¢s eyes. ââ¬Å"Nay, but to live in the rank sweat of an misnamed bed, stewââ¬â¢s in corruption, honeying and making lovers the nasty In this climatic scene Hamlet finally shows an intense desire to save his motherââ¬â¢s soul by trying to convince her that she must repent for the marriage to Claudia. Hamlet attempts to teach Gertrude that celibacy becomes easier the more time goes on and the more one practices. As a consequence, it seems, the misogynist that is Hamlet egging to break down. Which is why Aphelia is so important with in the story, she becomes a victim of Hamletââ¬â¢s anger that leads us to discover if he is truly a misogynist or not. It is Aphelia, the passive character in the relationship that has become the unlucky victim. Aphelia believed that Hamlet possessed real love for her, but so much to the point that he became ââ¬Å"mad for her love. (2:2:84) She accepted his love letters and acknowledged his indications. However, Hamlet becomes so concerned with how vengeful women are to men, or that they are a considerable threat to myself, and that he cannot stop for a moment and realize the pain he is causing Aphelia because of it. In the end, classifying Hamlet as a misogynist does not suffice to the difficult and realistic character of Hamlet. For, as it turns o ut, the feelings of hatred towards women were only because of the moments that he was caring and concerned with Aphelia and his mother. Though it is irresolute that he would have ever trusted a woman again but at the end he does reveal his love for Gertrude and Aphelia. Does Claudia murder his brother for his throne or his wife? Claudia is Hamletââ¬â¢s uncle, brother to king Hamlet. King Hamlet has been killed and a week after his death, Claudia became king and King Hamletââ¬â¢s wife, Gertrude, remarries to Claudia. The murder of King Hamlet is much like what we see in the Bible. Cain commits the first murder by killing his brother Able while he is sleeping peacefully in a garden. Much like this murder, Claudia murders his brother by pouring poison in his ear while he is sleeping in his own garden. Throughout the story Claudiaââ¬â¢ nerve is tested and finally he admits his ââ¬Å"offense is rank and smells to heaven because it hath the primal eldest curse upon, a brotherââ¬â¢s murderâ⬠(111. 11. 111). Claudia not only murdered King Hamlet for the throne but for his wife Gertrude as well. He always possessed the secondary role to his brother for quite sometime and because he was always second to King Hamlet, he became Jealous. The fact that King Hamlet was always busy in state affairs and fights could the reason for Gertrude loneliness, which brought her closer to Claudia. After the death of King Hamlet, support of Claudia gave Gertrude a way out to prevail over the situation and heartache. Weak moral strength in Gertrude made it simple for Claudia to convince her to marry him. After this it was simple for Claudia to have Gertrude become loyal to him, this also made him the father of Hamlet and brought his worries of revolt to a close as well as Hamletââ¬â¢s royal right to become king. As Claudia took over the throne and married his brotherââ¬â¢s wife, it also would make sense to say that he took over the throne so Hamlet would not be king. Also, Claudia had to ascend the throne nearly immediately since Denmark was on the brink of war with Norway. Finally, Claudia took the throne because if he had not, Hamlet would have become king and would have figured out that Claudia murdered is father and would have had him murdered anyways since that is the mandate of this story. Claudia married for two reasons. He wanted to solidify his image in the kingdom as king and he simply was in the dire need of romance. As the opportunity to do both of those came about he took advantage of it, but as he did that turned his newly owned kingdom into turmoil. Rexes Manchester The play opens in the dark. Two men a foot apart cannot see each other. A Ghost appears. Why has Shakespeare begun the play thus? What does it tell us about the nature of his audience? Shakespeare begins Hamlet in immediate suspense. There is no lighting and only two people on stage. The reason for this is to get the audienceââ¬â¢s attention from the beginning, without a strong introduction of the play the audience will be bored and unhappy with the performance. The audience at the globe theatre is rather uncivilized. Throughout the play itself the audience is drinking, eating and standing. Everyone in the audience is mostly dirtying, smelly and not very intellectual. If the actors were not performing at their highest level, things would be thrown on stage, the audience would become irritated ND the situation would escalate very quickly to the point that there would be a riot. Shakespeare uses the tactic of introducing a ghost first because it conveys the overall setting of the play, which is suspense, mysteriousness, puzzlement and most of all, curiosity. Through this introduction there is no need for a narrator to come out on stage and say the play is beginning. Due to the mysteriousness the crowd becomes silent, as they are anxious to find out what the play is about. Without the beginning of the play starting as it does, there would be no way to have the audience cooperate for a long period of time. How to cite Hamlet Ophelia, Papers
Department of Commerce and Government Organizations
Question: Discuss about the Department of Commerce and Government Organizations. Answer: Introduction The industry in which the Dairy Product Manufacturer company firm operates can be affected by both the internal and external environment. The external factors are the main threat that requires the organization establish appropriate strategies that enhance compliance. On the other hand, internal metrics are those within the business. Therefore, the report utilized Porters five and SWOT analysis to explore the market for this type of company respectively (Singh, 2010). Additionally, it is essential to apply the use these analytical tools to comprehend environmental imperatives regarding the direction to take (strategy). The assessment of the Dairy Product Manufacturer firm gaps is also important in developing a strategy for a given organization. It involves comparing the performance of at a given time and comparing it with the desired performance. As a result, the assessment of unutilized business opportunities will help in understanding the possibility of underutilization of the avail able resources assessment of the need for capital investment (James et al., 2011). Porters five forces model analysis. With this assignment, this model greatly affected the decision and strategy formulation processes by the company. The five elements described here, immensely affects the Dairy products manufacturing industry because of the stiff competition posed by rivals in the market. These elements can be summarized as shown in The threat of substitute product or service: The quality of the goods significantly determines the degree of acceptance for the goods and services offered. Apparently, dairy products have different brands, and any lag in quality gives an upper hand for the substitute products to win the contest (Whalley, 2010). This company, therefore, faces stiff competition from the available alternatives offered at a relatively low price. Threat of new entrants The chances of new firms entering the market are very high. The reason for the new entrance emanates from the fact that the company has not done intensive diversification. For instance, the primary products manufactured include full cream milk, lite milk, and the chocolate flavored. Lack of varieties on the market endangers the marketing position of this company because new players may join the market, produce the other brands and further include the three mentioned in their portfolio. The magnitude of competition is very high. And from the assessment, the competition is expected to take another course. Since other firms offer their products at a lower price, then this automatically implies that the new strategic marketing and development initiative our company under case study is planning to undertake will catalyze the other firms to employ a new marketing approach. This process will eventually heighten the level of rivalry (James, et al., 2011). The market is significantly affected by the cost of production. Notably, the suppliers largely affect the purchases as they have more buyers that the companies. The justification is from the expected price increases for the marginal cost by 10%. Bargaining Power of Buyers The users usually have an influence on the nature of products and services offered. But for this case, lack of producing a few varieties perhaps indicates that the users have no control than buying what is availed on the market. Few initiatives have been employed to influence the customers to purchase the products. They, however, rely on what is availed by producers. The SWOT Analysis Generally, the term represents the Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. Currently, this technique is instrumental in analyzing promoters and hindrances to a business success (Helms and Nixon, 2010). The breakdown looks at the Dairy Product Manufacturer firms strategic operation. The assessment of all of the four metrics will enable this firm to come up with measures that can lead it into business. And this can only be possible with able leadership who can foresee the future through the analysis of the current situations. It should also identify what it can do best than anyone else in the market thus giving the business enterprise. A Dairy Product Manufacturer firm should utilize the available human and financial resources to reduce adverse effects caused by these factors. Besides, this organization has a strong financial position, a large market base and a cost leader. These factors have, therefore, assisted in ensuring that it meets all the operational costs (NIST, 2013) . The assessment of the weaknesses will enable the management to understand its capabilities as well as inabilities. Understanding business position can assist in investing in realistic and achievable activities. The company has failed to diversify and offer a range of products to customers. Also, its strategic plans have neglected to focus on alignment of the internal setup with the core objectives. Also, acting as a cost leader is inappropriate in the industry where you dont control the influence of suppliers. In addition, opportunities are the un-utilized activities that if ventured in, the firm will succeed, grow and expand. Some lucrative opportunities come by chance, and if they are not sported, the competitors may enter the market and invest in such ventures. For instance, the government may come up with new legislations that significantly enhance success. With our case, however, the Diary firm can manufacture other products that are currently not on the market (Pojasek, 2013). The strong financial position also allows it to purchase the technology, and further invest in research and development to uncover various ways of improving the performance of the company. Lastly but not least, the report analyzed business threats. These are the factors that endanger business success. A poor evaluation of the threats can result to business failure. Mostly, they emanates from the external environment where the firm under study have limited control over (Roseland, 2012). For this case, the company is faced with the threat from stiff competition. The management has to employ all available avenues to deal with the menace (Helms and Nixon, 2010). Gap analysis refers to a way of establishing the performance difference between the current performance state of the organization and the performance state that an organization desires to achieve. This exercise helps the management to have a good understanding of the gaps that exist in the society and therefore look for ways of bridging them (Rajender and Kumar, 2012). This is necessary exercise for the growth and continuity of Dairy Product Manufacturer firm. Gap analysis, in this case, involves three steps. First, the present state of the Dairy Product Manufacturer firm is established. It includes the quantity and type of dairy products that Dairy Product Manufacturer firm produces at the moment. As earlier noted, the company has not identified the need for manufacturing a variety of goods. Secondly, a look into the future is established. This step highlights what the Dairy Product Manufacturer firm expects to have in future or what it desires to achieve. It includes the quantity and type of dairy products that Dairy Product Manufacturer company want to produce. Finally, the differences between the future you want the state of the Dairy Product Manufacturer business, and its current state is established. Currently, there is a market that has not been explored. For instance, the Diary VAP, wholesalers and distributors can increase the quantity if other varieties of products are provided by this company (Milovanovi?, 2011). Business objectives are statements of purpose explaining where the business wants to go in future. It states what a firm wants to achieve. Objectives are important because they will help to provide guidance and direction, facilitate planning and also evaluate and control performance. Some of the objectives of Dairy Product Manufacturer firm are to expand production capacity for Plant 1. This will directly increase the milk processing plant. However, the expansion will increase fixed and production costs. The firm should aim to grow in its production in order to stand competitive environment and increase profits. Another objective for this company is to improve the marketing of its products. Marketing should aim at improving the sales of the company products. The sales for all the goods should because the rate of consumption is still low. Perhaps, marketing and sales promotion will be one of the activities that can increase the volume of sales (James et al., 2011). Also, the firm should also target to venture into new improved milk products and which have proved to work in the market through research and development. These products include developing no fat milk, lactose-free milk, organic full cream milk, organic lite milk, and milk powder and many others. It will enhance diversification of the business operation thus sustainability. The business strategy defines the means that an organization can use to achieve its set objectives. To achieve any goal, Dairy Product Manufacturer should have an effective strategy in place. The strategy should be real, measurable and achievable. Based on the purpose improving on marketing activities, investment in advertisement and sales promotion can work well to achieve this goal. The advertisement should aim at making the product much more at the reach of the consumers (Seiler Beall, 2010). Moreover, Dairy Product Manufacturer firms should target all users and distributors of dairy products. It will target family segment to make the products used by the family to be at reach. It should also target the infant's segment because this will ensure the products consumed by the children have significantly increased. The advertisement should be extended to the other categories such as wholesalers and other distributors. As a result, the company will make more sales and further grow (Ko tler Amstrong, 2014). Dairy Product Manufacturer firm has another objective of expansion of the plant. This goal will require more funding to implement and achieve it. The financing strategy here will involve borrowing cash and then distribute the repayment within a year. Borrowing can also be a strategy for financing other objectives such diversification into other dairy products and use the revenue generated from the venture to repay for the loan facility. Conclusion I strongly recommend the Dairy Product Manufacturer firm to initiate more process to identify profitable opportunities and invest in them. Then use the research and development and finally sales and promotion to ensure the targeted customers are reached. Goods should be presented to clients according to the market segmentation. In conclusion, it is important for Dairy Product Manufacturer firm to understand its environment of operation because this will help to come up with the appropriate objectives and strategies that are necessary for the business growth and continuity. Lastly, gap analysis is done to compare the present state with what is expected in future. This assessment will undoubtedly bring out the difference between the current and what is expected. If an appropriate strategy is taken, Dairy Product Manufacturer firm is likely to achieve its goals smoothly. References NIST (2013). Criteria for Performance Excellence 2013-2014. Nineteen Eighty Four Essay Example For Students
Nineteen Eighty Four Essay In Canada, we have the freedom to do almost anything. In the novel NineteenEighty Four, there is no freedom. Although there are no laws in Oceania, thereare consequences to doing thoughtcrime. The consequences are used not forpunishment but for the limitation of people who may perform a crime in thefuture. There are many differences in our society today and the society that ofNineteen Eighty Four. In our society today, we encourage thinking. Even inschools, children are taught to express themselves in any way possible. Storywriting, acting, or even art, there are a variety of ways to achieve that whilein Oceania, children are taught to spy on their parents to see if they arehaving thoughtcrimes. Thoughtcrime is a word in Newspeak that controls anyindividual thought. One cannot think on his or her own. He or she can only thinkwhat the government tells or allows him or her to think. If they are ever caughtwith thoughtcrime, he or she would be vapourized. Freedom of speech is limiteddue to the fact that thought can lead to the destruction of the government.Speech is also restricted due the Newspeak. Newspeak limits the words one canuse to eliminate thoughtcrime. Without words, one cannot fully expressthemselves. The people of Oceania do not have the freedom of expression like wedo. Without thought, there is no expressions of any kind, which makes him or hera goodthinker. A goodthinker is one that knows naturally, without thought, howto behave or act according to the government. In society today, there is freedomof expression everywhere. In magazines, on televisions, on people themselves andeven communication. People express themselves through their clothing, while inthe book, everyone wears the same thing. There is no freedom of expressionwhatsoever. In both magazines and television, people express their opinion allthe time with no fear of being vapourized or the fear of the consequences thecommunity of Oceania has to face. Today, people will protest against thegovernment for what they believe in. For example, teachers protested Bill 160 inthe streets against the government. There would never be public protests againstthe government in Oceania. History is important for one to know of what hashappened in the past and learn from it. We are able to learn history throughbooks, videos and even from people. History for the community of Oceania isconstantly changing. The workers of the Ministry of Truth, rewrites historywithout complaint. Records are changed to better suit the present. People are sonaive that they would believe anything the government says. For example, one daythey can be at war with Eurasia, and the next minute they are at war withEastasia. The people of Oceania, are not living with any human rights. Withoutfreedom, they are no better then a caged animal. There are just puppets that thegovernment controls. Everyone should be entitled to freedom in order to live ahappy and full life.

Immigration in Lebanon Essay Example
Immigration in Lebanon Paper Term Paper of English 102 Causes of Immigration In Lebanon Ahmad C. Halwany ID#: 2008 03 653 Lebanese American University Abstract For a great period of time emigrants from Lebanon have been establishing communities throughout the world , and have been talking a lot about migration, until the number of Lebanese people outside Lebanon became greater than the double the number of Lebanese citizens. The Lebanese migration seems to have several principal causes. The first one is the economic causes based on the lack of work opportunities and poverty. The second one is the social cause that concerns the overpopulation, the insecurity and the lack of security programs. The third one is the weakness of the academic level in Lebanon where the attraction of the destination countries to the Lebanese people and the lack of experimental fields and the presence of poor managements in the domain. Hence, how are those causes really affecting the Lebanese migration? Leaving his country is it the solution? Migration is a very old action practiced internationally, where people migrate carrying a message to other populations or searching for better conditions of survival. According to Elizabeth,B (2003), ââ¬Å" Arabs are not the only people to leave their land searching for new chances in lifeâ⬠(p. 17). By our century, the rule of migration was set to be that people of the third world are the immigrants to the rich states. This truth is the case of the Lebanese immigrants that are expanded in a lot of foreign lands such as the United States of America, We will write a custom essay sample on Immigration in Lebanon specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We will write a custom essay sample on Immigration in Lebanon specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer We will write a custom essay sample on Immigration in Lebanon specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer Australia , Arab Gulf region , European countries and others. Hence, immigration in Lebanon is induced by reasonable factors based on economic, social and academic levels. First of all, one of the important causes of immigration in Lebanon is the economic cause. It includes two essential points like the lack of work opportunities and the poverty in the country. Starting with the fact that the standard Lebanese wage of a normal employee is relatively not enough for a man to afford a good lifestyle for his family and himself. The opposite conditions in the rich countries will attract him for migration. According to Douglas, S. (1990), ââ¬Å"Because of low work opportunities in poor countries and the fact that relatively the wages in the rich countries are higher that in the third world immigration is to be the best resolution for survival. â⬠(p. 60). Equally important, the statistics of Lebanese that migrated for the same reason as preceded are high. ââ¬Å"The total number of Lebanese s who migrated to the USA from 1991 to 2000 is hundred and two thousands Lebanese studentsâ⬠(Tabbara,R, 2001. )(Method 3 section, table 1). In addition to the number of immigrants, the percentage of jobless people is far above the ground, where more than half of the Lebanese are unemployed and they consist of two groups of people, whether they are not working and searching for work or they are not occupied and not looking for a job. According to Thomas, E. (2003),â⬠In a sample of 200 people, the percentage of unemployed people is more than 50 %â⬠. ( Disable people and employment section, table 1). Still, one of the causes of unemployment and then a cause of migration is the truth a lot of foreigners occupy the job market in Lebanon. They come from different surrounding countries and are preferred by the Lebanese employer because they are less salaried than a Lebanese worker. According to Haddad, (1996),â⬠The labor market in Lebanon is somehow opened to foreigners more than Lebanese especially in the construction field and in informal services sectorsâ⬠. (Employment Section, para . 1). Furthermore, concerning the other crucial sub cause, poverty plays an important role as an inducer for migration in Lebanon. It seems to be an important situation of misery that pushes the poor person to search for a way to exit his environment. And Lebanon appears to have a lot of regions with extreme poverty , and this region is not only concentrated in only one region but a lot more, and statistics of poor people living in these areas are also elevated. As for Haddad, (1996), . â⬠Poor people living in the urban regions such as Beirut, Tripoli, Zahle , and others work in the civil service ( 31% that live under the poverty line), in industry ( 26%) . They are about 750,000 where 90,000 of them are extremely poor. ââ¬Å"(employment Section, para . 1). Last , as for poverty, salaries differ from a country to another because of life style , life demands and needs. However, in Lebanon, the average wage that a family earns monthly does not seem to be sufficient for the whole demands. For example transportation, eating, clothing, lodging, etc. This is true essentially because almost everything is getting more expensive while the salary is remaining unchanged. This alone is not a major problem facing the reality that a lot of people earn even less than this average income. For illustration and according to Haddad, A. (1996), ââ¬Å"In Lebanon , the average wage for a family of five persons that lives moderately is 618$ per month; however, a high percentage of Lebanese people earn less and are considered as poor. (employment Section, para . 1). Second of all, Lebanese immigration is also caused by some social causes based on population matters, instability and deficiency of some security programs. Lebanon, comparing to other countries is an overpopulated country especially in its capital Beirut and some of the suburbs. They have a relatively high p ercentage of the population density, the fact that is supported by the claim of Korfali, (2007), ââ¬Å"The overpopulation of the Lebanese capital and its suburbs is relatively high where its residence is up to 33% of the Lebanese population â⬠(Abstract section, para. ). Not only in these regions, but the density of the population in Lebanon are also high in other sections of the country ââ¬Å"The disproportional extend of the population between the capital of Lebanon, Beirut, and the coastal regions is permitting hazardous crisis in the population density, causing a dreadful public consequence on the Lebanese citizens is believed that population densities vary from 1,610 person/km2 in the coast, 440 person/km2 in Mount Lebanon, and 260 person/km2 in the South, to 120 person/km2 in Bekaa. Social Aspects of Sustainable Development in Lebanon,1997). â⬠(Status section, para. 1). Additionally, instability is also one of the major social causes of the immigration. In fact, t he forced migration is a part of this instability where people had problems and critical situations during the wars period in order not to broaden these problems. In 1989, Abou-rjaili,k. claims that ââ¬Å" The type of migration that took place after the 1975ââ¬â¢s war in Lebanon is a forced migration , and it was done in order to avoid some fights and problems â⬠. Abstract section, para. 1). Besides, Lebanon witnessed a lot of wars for example the last war were in the 2006 and a lot of before. The point is that these wars were almost all against Israel , the country that has the same borders with Lebanon. Being till now the Lebanese enemy , Israel keeps on being an element of threatening to the Lebanese stability. Actually, the last warning aimed to Lebanon was lately, ââ¬Å" In the sixth of August 2009, Barak threatened Lebanon of attacking it in case if Hezbollah was a member in the new Lebanese government. (The Israeli Warnings to Beirut , 2009). (Para. 1). Moreover, th e presence of multi religions in Lebanon seems to be another social cause of our topic in some places. That may be true because of the fact that the Lebanese war of 1975 was between Lebanese but from different religions. And this can be named as a cause based on the declaration of Faour, D. (2007), ââ¬Å" The diversity and the wide variety of religions in Lebanon tend to create certain unsteadiness. (Para. 4). â⬠As well as , Lebanon as a government has an important scarcity towards the Lebanese population. This shortage can be named as a chief cause of the Lebanese immigration. For example , the Lebanese people do not benefit from security programs such as unemployment programs where the government is responsible of taking care of the unemployed citizens. In addition, one of these programs that lacks in Lebanon is the old-age security program where the government takes charge of the old persons after their retirements. The same as Sibai, A. declared in 2004, ââ¬Å"Lebanon still lacks the universal old-age security programs. â⬠( health care and insurance section, para. 3). At last, immigration is highly influenced by the academic level in Lebanon which is relatively feeble in comparison to the educational level in other developed countries. This can be easily shown by the high number of the Lebanese travelling in order to study abroad. For illustration, two out of five of my brothers are migrants to the United States of America for studying. One of them just wanted to reach a better degree in order to come across a better position in his career. The other one left his country because the major he wanted is not available in none of the Lebanese universities and it is the aeronautical mechanical engineering. Two out of five is a high ratio relatively. And a study done by Tabbara,(2001) show that the number of migrating student is high ââ¬Å"The total number of Lebanese students who migrate to the USA from 1991 to 2000 is above hundred and two thousands of Lebanese studentsâ⬠. (Method 3 section, table 1). Besides, many of these graduates or undergraduates students in Lebanon get out of their homeland targeting countries with best universities in the world. Such as we can conclude from the ââ¬Å"2010 WORLD UNIVERSITY RANKINGâ⬠,(2010), ââ¬Å"In the 2010 ranking of the best 200 universities of the, none of the Lebanese universities was listedâ⬠. PP. 1-7). Next to this fact is the truth of travelling to countries which are stabilized in their security in order to easily find a job after graduating, and not waiting a long period of time being a jobless. Namely, ââ¬Å"noting that the Lebanese country is not very stable in its security, affecting negatively the job market, Le banese students take the choice to continue studying abroad in order to immediately work after graduationâ⬠. (Canada gladly accepts highly qualified refugees from Lebanon,2006 para. 2). Away from this cause, the poor managements and the lack of experimental fields reside to be another factor encouraging the immigration of the Lebanese students. As university students in Lebanon, we almost all plan to continue our higher studies in one of the best universities of the developed countries. My brother is an example of these planners, but when he left seeking for a Masters in Business in London , he had a lot of offers from the United Arab Emirates that attracted him to work with them after graduation. And so he did. Now he is one of the immigrants and he doesnââ¬â¢t come to Lebanon unless for few days a year. This is the case of a lot of Lebanese that migrate for better education. Rachel,M. F. reinforce this statement by saying ââ¬Å"More benefits and additional education are acquired while studying abroad. (2000). (para. 1 ). Not only a high education is acquired out of the country but also a better experience in a job. A lot of students migrate just for having a experience in his job field and end in staying there. As the case of my cousin who went into the petroleum studies in Lebanon and went to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for experience, and now he has been working there for years. Lack of experiment fields also affects the Medical students. As Elie,(2006), explains ââ¬Å"Training abroad, of the Lebanese Medical students, will give them a better advantage than training in Lebanon. The experience acquired will oversupply the job market in Lebanonâ⬠. (abstract section, para. 1 ). The last, sub cause exists in the lack of sufficient knowledge about a certain background. There are several jobs in Lebanon that are not given a good consideration in order to ameliorate the career. The same is the fact of the nursing in Lebanon. According to El-Jardali,F. 2008), ââ¬Å"The cause of migration of the Lebanese nurse students is a weak management and a lack of knowledge about the contextâ⬠. (abstract section, para. 1). In conclusion, the Lebanese migration has several foundations based on many of economic causes such as unemployment and poverty, social causes like the overpopulation, the instability of the countryââ¬â¢s security and the shortage in the securi ty programs, in addition to the academic level limitations based on the strengths of the destination countries and the poor management accompanied with the lack of the experimental fields of this level. Now as almost a lot of the crucial causes of the Lebanese migration are diagnosed and knowing that itââ¬â¢s very difficult to stop this migration, will the Lebanese government assisted by the Lebanese people be able to find solutions to these causes in order to at least lessen from the bad consequences? Beam:à 113 ft. Draft:à 35 ft. Propulsion:à 12 Ãâ" boilers, 4 Ãâ" Westinghouse geared steam turbines, 4 Ãâ" shafts Speed:à 33 knots Complement:à 4,104 men USS Coral Sea (CV-43)- Armament (at commissioning): 18 Ãâ" 5 guns84 Ãâ" Bofors 40 mm guns68 Ãâ"à Oerlikon 20 mm cannons Aircraft 100-137 aircraft USS Coral Sea (CV-43)à - Design: In 1940, with the design of the Essex-class carriers nearly finished, the US Navy commenced an examination of the design to ascertain whether the new ships could be changed to incorporate an armored flight deck.à This alteration came under consideration due to the performance of the Royal Navys armored carriers during the opening years of World War II.à The US Navys review found that though armoring the flight deck and partitioning the hanger deck into several sections reduced damage in battle, adding these changes to the Essex-class ships would greatly reduce the size of their air groups.à Unwilling to limit the Essex-class offensive power, the US Navy decided to create a new type of carrier that would retain a large air group while adding the wanted protection.à Significantly larger than the Essex-class, the new type that became the Midway-class would be able to carry over 130 aircraft while including an armored flight deck.à As the new design evolved, naval architects were forced to reduce much of the carriers heavy armament, including a battery of 8 guns, in order to reduce weight.à Also, they were compelled to spread the class 5 anti-aircraft guns around the ship rather than in the planned dual mounts.à When finished, the Midway-class would be the first type of carrier to be too wide to use the Panama Canal. USS Coral Sea (CV-43) - Construction: Work on the third ship of the class, USS Coral Sea (CVB-43), commenced on July 10, 1944, at Newport News Shipbuilding.à Named for the critical 1942 Battle of the Coral Sea which stopped the Japanese advance toward Port Moresby, New Guinea, the new ship slid down the ways on April 2, 1946, with Helen S. Kinkaid, wife of Admiral Thomas C. Kinkaid, serving as sponsor.à Construction moved forward and the carrier was commissioned on October 1, 1947, with Captain A.P. Storrs III in command.à The last carrier completed for the US Navy with a straight flight deck, Coral Sea completed its shakedown maneuvers and began operations on the East Coast. USS Coral Sea (CV-43) - Early Service: After completing a midshipmen training cruise to the Mediterranean and Caribbean in the summer of 1948, Coral Sea resumed steaming off the Virginia Capes and took part in long-range bomber testing involving P2V-3C Neptunes.à On May 3, the carrier departed for its first overseas deployment with the US Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean.à Returning in September, Coral Sea aided in the activation of the North American AJ Savage bomber in early 1949 before making another cruise with the Sixth Fleet.à Over the next three years, the carrier moved through a cycle of deployments to the Mediterranean and home waters as well as was re-designated an attack aircraft carrier (CVA-43) in October 1952.à Like its two sister ships, Midway (CV-41) and Franklin D. Roosevelt (CV-42), Coral Sea did not participate in the Korean War. à In early 1953, Coral Sea trained pilots off the East Coast before again departing for the Mediterranean.à Over the next three years, the carrier continued a routine cycle of deployments to the region which saw it host a variety of foreign leaders such as Francisco Franco of Spain and King Paul of Greece.à With the beginning of the Suez Crisis in the fall of 1956, Coral Sea moved to the eastern Mediterranean and evacuated American citizens from the region.à Remaining until November, it returned to Norfolk in February 1957 before departing for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard to receive a SCB-110 modernization. à This upgrade saw Coral Sea receive an angled flight deck, enclosed hurricane bow, steam catapults, new electronics, removal of several anti-aircraft guns, and relocation of its elevators to deck edge. USS Coral Sea (CV-43) - Pacific: Rejoining the fleet in January 1960, Coral Sea debuted the Pilot Landing Aid Television system the following year.à Allowing pilots to review landings for safety, the system quickly became standard on all American carriers.à In December 1964, following the Gulf of Tonkin Incident that summer, Coral Sea sailed for Southeast Asia to serve with the US Seventh Fleet.à Joining USS Ranger (CV-61) and USS Hancock (CV-19) for strikes against Dong Hoi on February 7, 1965, the carrier remained in the region as Operation Rolling Thunder began the following month.à With the United States increasing its involvement in the Vietnam War, Coral Sea continued combat operations until departing on November 1. USS Coral Sea (CV-43) - Vietnam War: Returning to the waters of Vietnam from July 1966 to February 1967, Coral Sea then crossed the Pacific to its home port of San Francisco.à Though the carrier had officially been adopted as San Franciscos Own, the relationship proved icy due to the residents anti-war feelings.à Coral Sea continued to make annual combat deployments in July 1967-April 1968, September 1968-April 1969, and September 1969-July 1970.à In late 1970, the carrier underwent an overhaul and began refreshed training early the next year.à En route from San Diego to Alameda, a severe fire erupted in the communications rooms and began to spread before the heroic efforts of the crew extinguished the blaze. à With anti-war sentiment increasing, Coral Seas departure for Southeast Asia in November 1971 was marked by crew members taking part in a peace demonstration as well as protesters encouraging sailors to miss the ships departure.à Though an on-board peace organization existed, few sailors actually missed Coral Seas sailing.à While on Yankee Station in the spring of 1972, the carriers planes provided support as troops ashore battled the North Vietnamese Easter Offensive.à That May, Coral Seas aircraft took part in the mining of Haiphong harbor.à With the signing of the Paris Peace Accords in January 1973, the carriers combat role in the conflict ended.à After a deployment to the region that year, Coral Sea returned to Southeast Asia in 1974-1975 to aid in monitoring the settlement.à During this cruise, it aided Operation Frequent Wind prior to the fall of Saigon as well as provided air cover as American forces resolved the Mayaguez incident. USS Coral Sea (CV-43) - Final Years: Reclassified as a multi-purpose carrier (CV-43) in June 1975, Coral Sea resumed peacetime operations.à On February 5, 1980, the carrier arrived in the northern Arabian Sea as part of the American response to the Iran Hostage Crisis.à In April, Coral Seas aircraft played a supporting role in the failed Operation Eagle Claw rescue mission.à After a final Western Pacific deployment in 1981, the carrier was transferred to Norfolk where it arrived in March 1983 after an around-the-world cruise.à Sailing south in early 1985, Coral Sea sustained damage on April 11 when it collided with the tanker Napo.à Repaired, the carrier departed for the Mediterranean in October.à Serving with the Sixth Fleet for the first time since 1957, Coral Sea took part in Operation El Dorado Canyon on April 15.à This saw American aircraft attack targets in Libya in response to various provocations by that nation as well as its role in terrorist attacks. à The next three years saw Coral Sea operate in both the Mediterranean and the Caribbean.à While steaming the latter on April 19, 1989, the carrier rendered aid to USS Iowa (BB-61) following an explosion in one of the battleships turrets.à An aging ship, Coral Sea completed its final cruise when it returned to Norfolk on September 30.à Decommissioned on April 26, 1990, the carrier was sold for scrap three years later.à The scrapping process was delayed several times due to legal and environmental issues but was finally completed in 2000.à Selected Sources DANFS: USS Coral Seaà (CV-43)NavSource: USS Coral Seaà (CV-43) USS Coral Seaà (CV-43) Association

Business Law- Law of Negligence Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
Business Law- Law of Negligence - Essay Example Helenââ¬â¢s claim for her injuries and lost earnings against Metro plc. The issues in this case is whether Metro Plc owes Helen a duty of care for failing to secure the wood that passersby were supposed to use to cross over the holes they had dug. Furthermore, the other issue found in this case is to ascertain whether it was Metro Plc negligence, which led her to lose her earnings. The law applicable in this case is law of negligence; negligence is defined as the lack of use of reasonable care resulting into causing harm to the other person or property. Negligence occurs either when an individual does something that a reasonable person would not do or failing to do something that a reasonable man would. There are various precedents have been set over the years concerning the law of negligence. One of those precedents is good neighborship that was set in the case of Donoghue vs. Stevenson and another recent precedent, which is relevant to this case, is Caparo vs. Dickman (1990). Me tro Plc is liable for Helensââ¬â¢ injury since they could not have foreseen the accident. This is because they had already taken action into ensuring that the passersby would not suffer injury; however, their action did not prevent Helen from suffering personal injury. In Caparo vs. Dickman (1990), it was held that the principle of neighbourhood involved more than just a person who was in a contract with the defendant. In addition, there are three principles used to determine whether there is duty of care. The first principle is foreseeability of claimant being harmed, it is clear that the defendants had foreseen possible harm and had not taken enough action to ensure that passersby like Helen would not be at risk of harm. The other principle is the proximity between the defendant and the claimant. In this case, there is an aspect of neighbourhood between Helen and Metro plc since the defendants knew claimant and other passersby used the place. In Donoghue vs. Donoghue (1932), ju dge Atkin stated that a neighbour is not a person with whom one has physical closeness but one that is likely to be affected by the other personââ¬â¢s actions. The third principle of Caparo case states that a person can only be held to owe a duty of care if doing so is reasonable, fair and just. In the case of Helen vs. Metro plc, it was reasonable fair and just that the defendant ensured that the claimant and other passersby were not at risk. On the other claim of losing her earnings, Helen cannot blame Metro Plc this is because she spent more time in hospital because she was not served on arrival. Metro Plc could not have foreseen that she could have lost her earnings as a result, of their actions; therefore, they do not owe them a duty of care. In Spartan steel and Alloys Ltd V Martin & Co. Ltd (1873) it was held that economic loss can only be recoverable only if it results from physical damage that was caused by the defendantââ¬â¢s negligence (Harpwood, 2000). Helenââ¬â ¢s claim against Hubble & Co. In this case, Helen is the claimant from Hubble & Co for negligence this is because she relied on the report that Hubble & Co prepared to buy more shares, and this led her into losing money since Bubble &Coââ¬â¢s report was wrong. The issues that arise from this case include whether Bubble &Co are liable since they were merely employees of Metro Plc the company that Helen owned shares. The law applicable in this case is pure economic loss negligence (Matthews, 2012).

French Literature in Translation (Tristan and Iseult) Essay
French Literature in Translation (Tristan and Iseult) - Essay Example Analyzing the translations of the French version of Tristan and Iseult, one can see that there were two main versions from the French poets of the twentieth century: Beroul and Thomas. These two versions differ in their presentation, style and in some of the scenes, though the theme and the plot were still the same. ââ¬Å"Berouls romance was considered to be the uncourtly version, because it was less refined, and some of the scenes and the behaviors of the characters were brutal at timesâ⬠¦On the other hand, Thomas wrote courtly version of the romance. Thomas was much more interested in the inner thoughts of the charactersâ⬠(Joe, 1999). It makes clear the fact that there are differences between these two French versions. The reader/audience can feel the driving force which is yearning for union beyond the restrictions of time, physical passion and their own separate material existence while going through Tristan and Isolde. Through their death, lovers achieved the realization of divine love. In other words, through the world of divine love they receive the status of immortality. Death is presented as a great opportunity to reach the state of oneness forever. Iseult embraces death with full passion and she joins her lover in a mystical background. In the old stories the lovers were buried on the side of a chapel and believed to be regained life with self realization. Wagner, in his opera, demonstrates the events with necessary improvisations and as a result reader can see the historical elements of Western ideologies and principles about love and death is presented clearly in Tristan and Iseult. Wagnerââ¬â¢s work underlines the fact that the story discusses serious sociological and psychological layers. The human relation (love between Tristan and Iseult) explores the elements of a great symphonic texture. Merging of the lovers is a perfect example of the
